About Minabe Town

Minabe Town, Japan's number one ume plum producing area, is located in the central part of Wakayama Prefecture. The special product "Kishu Binchotan," an extremely high quality charcoal that promotes sustainable forest management, is produced here. To the south you can find a Prefectural Natural Park along the coastline. World heritage Kumano Kodo passes through the town, blessed with cultural heritage such as ruins, Senri no Hama beach is one of the only seaside routes on the Kumano Kodo, and is also the best spawning ground for loggerhead turtles on Honshu Island. There are many attractions of sightseeing, such as viewing ume blossoms in early spring and swimming and fishing in summer. Hotels featuring hot spring baths abound!
