Prince Arima, the prince of Emperor Kotoku, was accused of rebellion and was escorted. He tied a pine branch in Iwashiro.
He wrote a Manyoshu (8th century anthology of Japanese poetry) and prayed to the god of Iwashiro for peace. The land of Iwashiro later became a famous place on the Kumano highroad.
